We have just finished reading The Night They Stormed Eureka by Jackie French. It was a fantastic book it was educational, emotional and had action at the end. I would give it 12/10 because I was so into it I wanted to buy it for myself.
Here is a blurb/summary that I wrote:
Sam a homeless and unloved teenager finds herself in 1850’s Ballarat.
She joins the Puddlehams, who run the best cook shop on the diggings,
Who dream of a hotel in Melbourne.
By late November men and woman of mixed nationalities start rebelling for freedom.
Dreams will be crushed, hearts will be broken and the world never be the same.
Get ready for the Eureka Stockade.
Whenever we have a reading conference Miss C gives us these little cards with questions about our reading called Lit Sparks. My card said If you could give the main character of your book a gift that he/she would really appreciate, what would it be and why?
I would give Sam a family that loved her and cared for her because she decided to run away from her family because her mum didn’t care for her and her stepdad or someone bashed her up.
At the start I made a few predictions and now I will see if they are right/sort of right/wrong.
I predicted that Sam’s family member dies in the stockade, it was: SORT OF RIGHT.
I predicted the catastrophic event meant war, it was: RIGHT.
I predicted that she was living in the 1850’s, it was: SORT OF RIGHT
I still had lots of questions after the book but if I showed you all 12 of them you’d probably never live to see the Olympics. Here are three of them, if you don’t like spoilers don’t read these, here they are:
I wonder how Happy Jack’s dog came back to the 21st century with Sam?
I wonder if Mr. Puddleham opened the hotel that Mrs. Puddleham wanted?
I wonder how Mrs.Puddleham died?
I hope you enjoyed my blog post about The Night They Stormed Eureka by Jackie French, what was your favourite bit?
